Miss Kansas' Outstanding Teen Candidate 2022
and Future Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
Welcome friends!
Thank you for your interest in my story and my cause!
I was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas and I am an eighth grader at Maize Middle School.
I love all things in nature and have a deep respect for the world around me.
I believe my peers and the youth of today can use their voice in powerful ways to bring about change to their community and the world. The Miss America Organization stands for success, style, service, and scholarship.
What better platform for teens to utilize their voice in impactful ways!
Follow me as I lead the way towards shelter animal adoption advocacy!
The Power in"Paw"sitivity:
Objective: To be a positive role model as Miss America's Outstanding Teen, while raising awareness and assistance for animal shelters/sanctuaries across the country that are overloaded and at capacity with animals in need.
Choose Rescues over breeders
Shelters not only save lives, but they ensure you find the perfect match for companionship.
The Current Problem
Many factors contribute to an animal's placement with animal control or in a shelter.
The lack of spaying and neutering a pet is the biggest problem when it comes to overpopulation of pets. Misinformation and fear leave individuals hesitant to seek help when they find an animal has given birth to babies. When those babies grow and go into heat, they run for the streets and animal control is called.
Additionally, many people are being forced to surrender the animals they love as a result of the current economic difficulties.
Helping people rehome their pets requires more resources and care. When people move to places where landlords don't allow pets, the animals are either surrendered to animal shelters or picked up by animal control for being abandoned.
Many decent pet parents may be unable to aid their animals due to a lack of financial resources, therefore they are hesitant to getting them spayed or neutered or they choose to surrender their pets.
Additionally lack of education on how to be a good pet parent, leads to Animal sanctuaries and shelters everywhere are begging for help! During the pandemic shelters couldn't receive the volunteer support, or fundraiser campaigns they thrive on to keep them a float. Services across the nation were suspended during the pandemic and many pet parents couldn't get their pets spayed or neutered. Thus the nation is experiencing a boom in over pet population. Many shelters and sanctuaries are at capacity and they are doing the best they can to keep up with the need.
Several of my social impact partners are utilizing their own homes and funds to help solve this heartbreaking problem.
(Click on the pictures below for links to news stories.)
The Solution
My social impact partners are working hard to spread education of how shelters and sanctuaries can work together to help the community. They are here to help.
I am working hard on sharing what services are offered for people and how they can be responsible pet parents. I am also advocating
for animals that currently are seeking homes and helping spread the word to find them loving and caring homes.
There is much that the community can do to help too!
I am also aiming hard to speak to politicians about much needed funding for animal shelters and sanctuaries.
I believe the Miss America platform can bring about real change and excitement for saving animal lives.
Additionally, I'm seeking partnerships with veterinarians, donors, businesses, and politicians that can offer support for low cost spaying and neutering of animals to help decrease the number of stray animals needing a home.
Why Animal Shelter Adoption?
Since I was little I had a lot of empathy for animals. I was very interested in their care and ability to heal human heartache.
Animals are so curious and intelligent. You can learn a lot from sitting with an animal for just a little while.
When my little brother experienced a serious medical event at the age of two, our pets stayed by our side and gave my family the emotional support we needed to get by.
I believe we take for granted the power of positive things that happen when you welcome your home to animal adoption.
Every year, overcrowded shelters take in millions of stray, abused, and lost animals.
Adopting an animal frees up space for others to receive a fighting chance. You're not only giving more animals a second opportunity, but the money you spend on adoption goes directly to helping those shelters to better care for the animals they take in!
Keep in mind when you adopt a pet, you are actually saving two lives because you make space for another pet to get a second chance.
For those who cannot adopt, there are still excellent ways in helping support the crisis in shelters. Volunteerism, education, funding, and tangible donations are all powerful ways to make the difference of a lifetime for an animal. An animal in need is a friend indeed! Take the initiative to support your local animal shelter today!
Americans pay $1.5 billion each year for animal control to help with pet overpopulation.
- Did you know that according to the ASPCA that approximately 40% of dog owners and 46% of cat owners learned about their pet through word of mouth? Imagine the multitude of adoptions that could be made possible if we increased awareness and provided shelters with powerful connections to adoptees!
According to the Humane Society of the United States 19 million pets are living in underserved communities. 88% of those animals are not spayed or neutered and 69% of those animals have never seen a veterinarian.
In some regions of the United States 50-75% of the shelter population is cats. The biggest reason for animal abandonment is due to behavior issues that can easily be resolved through positive reinforcement training and education. What can you do today to make a positive impact?
Who's already on board?
This is a list of my social impact partnerships. The list is growing! Can I count you in too?

Paxton's Blessing Box
Take a blessing when you need one, Leave a blessing when you can.
Paxton’s Blessing Box is here for our communities and visitors, when they need us most! The crimson red food pantry box originated with #1 in Riverside – Wichita, KS – then Paxton’s idea started growing in Wichita, then the suburbs of Wichita, THEN in several Kansas towns AND now emerging in other areas of the USA! These pantry boxes are open 24/7, but it takes everyone, everywhere to be kind and extend a blessing, when you can! We believe that everyone deserves to have access to non-perishable food and other essentials, especially in these new times of uncertainty.
Each year, many families make a tradition out of supporting food pantries that feed the people in their community who need a little extra help.
But what about hungry pets? Did you know that Paxton's blessing box ALSO accepts donations of pet food and pet supplies? Help furry friends survive through hard times and donate to your local Paxton's Blessing box today! Paxton is helping many pet parents who have fallen on hard times, keep their pet! Thank you Paxton!

Tangible Donations/Other ways to lend a helping hand!
You may have resources lying around your house that could be a HUGE help for my social impact partners. Or you may be like me, and LOVE to buy gifts from wish lists! Here are some of the tangible donations my social impact partners are looking for.
Cardboard Egg Cartons
The Kansas Humane Society is asking for Cardboard egg cartons. Donations are accepted 11am - 6:00pm Monday - Saturday and 1pm - 4:30pm on Sunday at KHS. All donations are tax-deductible. For more information on donating to our animal shelter, please contact Erin Jones at 316-524-9196 ext. 222
Pet Toys
If you're anything like my family, you've got more pet toys than you can handle. Obviously, discarding some of them isn't the best option. First and foremost, it's a complete waste of a perfectly nice toy! Second, wouldn't it be beneficial to another less fortunate animal to play with it? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yeah, yes!! While not every shelter or rescue organization in the country accepts dog toys as contributions, many of them do if they're in decent condition. Exactly what it entails will vary according on the shelter or rescue, so use your best judgment.
The Kansas Humane Society and Another Day Animal Sanctuary are all accepting clean animal toys. KHS is also collecting toys for small mammals like rabbits, mice, and guinea pigs.
Large/Medium Towels or Blankets
Most shelters have cold, hard cement floors which are easy to clean but not very comfortable. Your old blanket or towel will provide a warm, soft spot for a cat or dog to sleep.
All of my social impact partners would be grateful for this gift!
Dillons Community Rewards Program
You can now help animals with Another Day Animal Sanctuary by shopping at your favorite Dillons store and the best part is it doesn't cost you a penny! Once logged into your Dillons Food Stores account you can search for ANOTHER DAY ANIMAL SANCTUARY either by name or NQ453 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account which requires some basic information, a valid email address, and a rewards card. As you shop and purchase items at Dillons stores they give us a percentage to help our programs and rescue efforts.
Paper Towels
Help shelters stay clean and organized! You can imagine how many spills and messes that need to be cleaned up. Help keep the animals healthy by donating paper towels to any of my social impact partners.
Stretch Scratchers
This is the very BEST exercise and stress relief tool for shelter cats.
Another Day Animal Sanctuary and the Kansas Humane Society are now asking for these.
You can find them online
https://www.stretchandscratch.com/Default.asp
Cat/Dog Kuranda Beds
Kuranda Beds offer comfortable, safe bedding for anxious, stressed out pets while they wait for their forever homes. The elevated design keeps dogs/cats off hard surfaces which reduces stress on joints.
All of my social impact partners are accepting donations of Kuranda beds.

Amazon Wish Lists
Do you earn Amazon gift cards? I like to use my amazon gift cards for buying things off of my social impact partner's wish lists! It feels good making their day as they see the amazon boxes come rolling in! It encourages the animals too!
Here's a list of my partner's wishlists:

Pet Carrier
All of my social impact partners can always use sturdy pet carriers to help transport animals safely.
Right now Another Day Animal Sanctuary is especially in need of cat carrier donations.
Peanut Butter
Peanut butter can help relieve stress in shelter dogs, keep dogs in their temporary homes occupied and happy, and distract dogs from frightening or disruptive situations. And of course, it can be made into a tasty, albeit high-calorie, dog treat!
The Kansas Humane Society is grateful for donations of peanut butter!
Office Supplies
Shelters don't just need pet supplies; they also need office products to keep everything on the admin side running smoothly. Things like pens, dry erase markers, printer paper, staples, sticky notes and other office supplies are almost always needed.
Soda Cans
The Kansas Humane Society has a recycling program where they have donation sites all over the city of Wichita. 100% of the money used to recycle old pop cans goes to the care of shelter animals.

Former Sunflower Princess
If you haven't heard of Sunflower Princesses then you are missing out! I had the honor of being Krystian Fish's Sunflower princess in the years 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
During that time, I had the opportunity to meet some exciting people and make a lot of new friends!
Each year, I raised my own money for the Miss Kansas Organization by selling lemonade.
I loved being a part of Miss Kansas because it always fell on my birthday.
I loved bringing sunflower cupcakes to all the Miss Kansas contestants and wishing them good luck.
I loved sharing with other little girls my age about the Miss Kansas Sunflower Princess Program and encouraging them to join me.
I even had the honor of donating two of my dresses, a plaque, and my crown to the Pratt County Historical Museum. I believe the Sunflower Princess program taught me that girls really can make their voices heard in powerful and amazing ways!
If you know of anyone who could benefit from the Sunflower Princess Mentoring Program, send them my way!
I'd love to share more with you!

Volunteerism
Acts of Service is my love language! In addition to my love for animal advocacy, I love volunteering and using my voice in big ways to give back to the community. Here is a list of a few of the ways I've been blessed to share my gifts by giving back over the years. Volunteering feels good. I promise that you receive much more than you give. Service = Success!
I encourage others to share their positive impact by doing their part with community service.
Paxton's Blessing Box
At the age of 10 I helped my mother and my friend Paxton plant blessing boxes around my community. We helped with stuff the bus campaigns and driving to blessing boxes to make sure they stayed clean and dry for incoming donations. To this day we still help Maggie and Paxton any time they need help at the pantry.
Models for Miracles
Since 2014 I have had the honor of serving three years for this fantastic charity event. Model 4 Miracles is a charity fashion show benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This fabulous event welcomes people of all ages, sizes, and genders and promotes real beauty and without limits. CMN is close to my heart because they helped my brother when he was in the hospital for 173 days.
Heartspring Care Walk
Since the age of two, my brother has had a lot of health complications. It wasn't until 2018 that he finally received a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Since then, our family proudly walks to support services to help families like mine. I'm very passionate about autism advocacy, almost as much as I am about animals! I am very passionate about inclusion and acceptance of all!
Ronald McDonald House Charities
During my brother's hospitalization in Kansas City, our family lived at the Ronald McDonald house. I will forever be grateful for this charity and how it helped my family be close to my brother during a very scary time! When we returned home my family volunteered at our local Ronald McDonald House in Wichita and we collect pop tabs to support families with a child in the hospital.
Circle of Friends Soc Walk
Circle of friends connects students with differences to be better connected to their peers and better learn how to socialize and build self esteem. I had the pleasure of supporting the 2017 Soc walk for the Arc of Sedgwick County at the Intrust Bank Arena. We had such a fun time!
The Kansas Humane Society
If you think skipping laundry day is bad at your house, imagine what its like at an animal shelter! Did you know that 200 animals make about 20-25 bags of laundry every day? That is about 567 pounds of laundry every day! Volunteering to help load the machines and fold laundry ensures the animals cages are clean and sanitary. Its a rewarding experience and helps employees focus on more important tasks. What better reason to sign up and volunteer?!
